Restorative Dentistry

Procedures we offer to restore your smile...

Preventive dentistry includes various procedures offered here at canal City Dental in Welland. These procedures are:

Endodontics (Root Canal Therapy)

Root canal treatment (as part of endodontics) is considered by professionals as the best possible procedure to save a badly infected or decayed tooth.

Root canal therapy or treatment is performed when the inner wall of the tooth has become severely infected or damaged, in order to prevent extraction of the tooth. The procedure involves cleaning out the canal system and then filling it with a special material referred to as “gutta percha”. The tooth is then capped off with a dental crown to restore strength and provide a seamless cosmetic result.

When is root canal therapy necessary?

Infection necessitating a RCT can occur for several reasons, such as a dental crack or chip, internal or deep decay, or even an issue with a crown. Surprisingly, the outside of the tooth often appears healthy while inside, it is significantly damaged.

Root canal therapy is the preferred method for treating a badly infected tooth because it saves the tooth by protecting it from further damage. Root canal therapy restores your normal bite and allows chewing while preventing further damage to surrounding teeth through spread of infection. By doing so, there is no need for extraction and replacement with a dental implant or bridge.

Periodontics

Unfortunately, the gums are susceptible to disease when they are not being properly cleaned and cared for on a daily basis. The initial signs of gum disease include gums that bleed with brushing and flossing, while the more advanced stage of gum disease causes problems like gum recession and ultimately, tooth loss.

Dentures

Losing several teeth can turn simple everyday functions like chewing and speaking into a challenge, and can certainly have a negative impact on one’s self-esteem.

The good news is, dentures are an excellent restorative option for patients who have lost either all or several of their natural teeth.

Custom-created to fit the patient’s jaw and fit comfortably inside the mouth, dentures are capable of restoring the natural functions of a smile while supporting facial muscles and appearance, thus also restoring a person’s confidence.

There are two kinds of dentures offered by our Welland dentist: full dentures and partial dentures.

Full or complete dentures are removable and restore the smiles of patents with all natural teeth missing. Partial dentures or “overdentures”, on the other hand, are typically removable and ideal for patients with multiple but not all teeth missing, as they restore sections of missing teeth.
